Sparkling Water

Carbonated water, also known as soda water, sparkling water, or seltzer water, is plain water into which carbon dioxide gas has been dissolved. The process of dissolving carbon dioxide gas is called carbonation. It results in the formation of carbonic acid (which has the chemical formula H2CO3). In the past, soda water was produced in the home by "charging" a refillable seltzer bottle by filling it with water and then adding sodium bicarbonate. Club soda may be identical to plain carbonated water or it may contain a small amount of table salt, sodium citrate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, potassium sulfate, or disodium phosphate, depending on the bottler. These additives are included to emulate the slightly salty taste of homemade soda water.

Instant Coffee

sl.JPGInstant coffee is a beverage derived from brewed coffee beans. Through various manufacturing processes the coffee is dehydrated into the form of powder or granules. These can be rehydrated using hot water to provide a drink similar to brewed coffee. At least one brand of instant coffee is also available in concentrated liquid form. The advantages of instant coffee are speed of preparation (no time is required for infusing the coffee — it is ready as soon as the hot water is added) and long shelf life (natural coffee, especially in ground form, loses flavour as its essential oils evaporate over time). The disadvantages are that instant coffee is easily spoiled if not kept dry and that its taste is of a lower quality than that of freshly-brewed coffee. In particular, the percentage of caffeine in instant coffee is less, and undesirable bitter flavor components are more present. The lowest quality coffee beans are used in the production of instant coffee (the best beans are usually kept to be sold whole) and sometimes other unwanted residues from the harvest are used in the production process. Instant coffee is commercially prepared through vigorous extraction of almost all soluble material from ground roasted coffee beans. This process naturally produces a different mix of components than home brewing. Opinions on instant coffee range from "intolerable imposter", through "reasonable alternative", to "better than the real thing." Due to the fact that it was the norm in American homes until the 1980s, some areas of the world see it as a particularly sophisticated beverage. Ironically, instant coffee is the only form of coffee available in certain coffee exporting countries. This may possibly be due to a society's appeal to novelty. In countries where it is popular, it is often referred to as "Café Puro", much to the horror of those aficionados who dislike instant coffee.

Beer

Beer is the world's oldest and most popular alcoholic beverage, selling more than 35 billion gallons (133 billion liters) per year. It is a fermented, carbonated beverage made from malted barley, hops and water (which, when heated, is known as brewing liquor). There are around 70-80 distinct styles of beer, with some divisions in styles up for debate. For example, some consider American IPA and English IPA to be separate categories, while others lump them all into the basic IPA category. American brewers produce lots of different styles of beer, such as Brown Ale, Amber ale, Blonde Ale, Cream Ale and Red Ale. Some of the large brewers use adjunct grains such as corn or rice to provide fermentable sugars at lower cost. Alcoholic beverages made from the fermentation of sugars derived from nonstarch sources (for example, grape juice or honey), and beverages which are distilled after fermentation are not considered to be beer.

From WW magazine. Eat these plain or add a sprinkling of crumbled queso fresco, freshly grated parmesan, or shredded mozzarella cheese. These can be made ahead and frozen. Look for masarepa in Latino grocery stores, it will usually be labeled as masarepa or harina de maiz precocida. You can also find it at ethnicgrocer.com

10 Minute Meal

Submitted by: Peyton Rhodes

Ramen has been a standby over years of back packing, motor camping and desert 'prospecting' where conserving water and cooking fuel were always at the front of our minds. A home made dehydrator added light weight, easy to use jerky & vegetables to the pot. Now any time I want a quick meal, as often as not it's Ramen. It's inexpensive, quick, and delicious. What more would you want?

10-10-10 Bread

Submitted by: originalrecipes

This is also known as pan bread. This bread is excellent, and we make it if we are having soup(instead of crackers), or if we are having a salad as a meal. It is also a thin bread, so it is great for dipping in dips. Hope you enjoy.

10-Grain Orange Bread

Submitted by: Robertina Baxter

This bread is terrific for sandwiches. Its slight sweetness and hint of orange marries well with turkey, particularly if youre one of the people who loves turkey sandwiches with a dollop of cranberry sauce in the filling.
